Pilgrim Coffee Bag

£95.00

A beautiful and unique upcycled bag! Made from a jute coffee sack

Fabric: A jute coffee sack, giving it a rustic texture. Lined with blue linen.

Handle: Black leather rein.

That bag has a fantastic story behind it! The original coffee sack represents a conservation project focused on the endangered spectacled bear in Peru.

🐻 The Story Behind the Coffee Sack

The bag comes from coffee imported by DR Wakefield (a UK-based coffee importer/trader) that was grown by the Cooperativa Agraria Frontera San Ignacio in Cajamarca, Peru.

Los Amigos Del Oso (The Friends of the Bear) is a community lot and project.

The El Oso Project: This initiative was set up by the cooperative to help conserve forests and protect wildlife—specifically the spectacled bear (also known as the Andean bear, and the inspiration for Paddington Bear!)—in and around the Santuario Nacional Tabaconas Namballe nature sanctuary.

Sustainable Farming: The farmers involved in the project grow the coffee using organic methods and are often Fairtrade certified. They also receive native tree seedlings and composted fertilizer to promote quality coffee production with the least possible impact on the environment.

This upcycled bag is a direct link to a socially and environmentally conscious farming project in Peru!
